Alison is a black and white film photographer living in Indianapolis. Her equipment consists of used or borrowed cameras, and she uses silver-based films and papers that are sometimes someone else’s throwaways. Choosing to use old tools — ones that are challenging to work with — not only can result in visual surprises, but also requires her to relinquish some control and to be creative about every step of making a photo.
She holds an M.S. in Library Science from the University of North Carolina and a B.A. in Art History from the University of Pittsburgh. She has also studied photography at Pittsburgh Filmmakers and the Maine College of Art. Alison has participated in a number of group exhibitions in Portland, ME, including at Three Fish Gallery, at Sylvia Kania Gallery, and at Maine College of Art.
I realize this photo makes it look like I'm from the bay area. I'm not. I'm originally from Pittsburgh, and now living in Portland, Maine.
